When is the best time of the year to Refinish my hardwood floors?
Any time in California is the right time. We are lucky enough to live in a place were weather doesn't hinder work compared to other parts of the country.
How many coats of sealer/polyurethane do you apply on your flooring projects?
Typically, we use a 3 coat system
How long does it take to refinish hardwood floors?
The smallest job will require two days. Usually 700 sq. ft. or less if you go Natural in color. Anything larger and or applying a stain will require atleast 1 more day.
What is V.O.C.?
Volatile organic compounds. The higher the V.O.C., the more harm it can cause you if breathed in.· After any of the product are dry, this question becomes meaningless.·
Does the D.C.S. (Dust containment system) really make a difference?
Absolutely! A much cleaner home and a higher degree of quality in the workmanship and experience. The days without a strong vacuum system is archaic and a form of punishment to the clients.·
Is wood dust dangerous?
Without a doubt, yes. Studies have shown that wood in dust form is a carcinogen. Some species are more dangerous than others.
Which finish is more durable, water based or oil modified polyurethane?
The question is too vague. There are many different grades of water based as well as oil based polyurethanes on the market. Some much better than others. Just make sure that the polyurethane used is “Commercial Grade" regardless of being water or oil based polyurethane.
I have hardwood floors under my carpets. What are my options?
Great news! For a fraction of the cost of new carpets, you can have those old floors made to look new with a sand and refinishing process. Most of the time, the floors are oak, so the color can be manipulated to your liking. See our stain guide under extras.
What is the difference between laminate and engineered hardwood flooring?
Laminate is a picture of wood on fiber board while engineered hardwood has a veneer of real hardwood on the surface.· Laminate is a one time floor while most engineered hardwood floors can be sanded and restored to look new years after the purchase date.

How soon after you purchase a floor can you install it?
The average wait time is 4-8 days depending on the species and location.· The floor must acclimate and must become part of the house to avoid moisture issues. When the moisture level is within 3%, you are safe of the sub-floor or slab, you have a green light.·
What is the purpose of a Calcium Chloride test?
Simple, to test the moisture content of the slab before installation to avoid buckling of the new floor.
What is engineered hardwood floor?
Engineered hardwood floors are developed to be installed over a concrete slab.· Each plank has layers of plywood on the bottom side to prevent moisture from penetrating to the surface layer, which is the real hardwood veneer that you will see and walk on.· Depending on the manufacturer, the wear layer varies in thickness.
Can engineered hardwood floor be sand and finished?·
Generally speaking, yes. It is purely dependent on the thickness of the wear layer.
What is better, solid or engineered hardwood floors?
Solid everytime. If you have a choice, pick solid. The price is almost always cheaper and the life is about 5 times that of engineered.
