# Hardwood Floor Sanding & Refinishing 2-Year Warranty

National Floors stands behind the quality of our hardwood floor sanding and refinishing work. We provide a **2-year workmanship warranty** against cracking, chipping or delamination when the condition is caused by improper sanding, preparation or finish application performed by National Floors.

If a covered problem is determined to have been caused by our workmanship, **National Floors will stand behind our work and make it right.**

## What Does the National Floors Warranty Cover?

Our warranty covers the workmanship involved in sanding, preparing and finishing your hardwood floor. This includes premature finish adhesion failure or delamination when the failure is determined to have resulted from improper preparation or application by National Floors.

The warranty covers **workmanship failure**. Damage that occurs to the floor or finish from use, accidents, environmental conditions or other outside causes is not a workmanship failure.

## What Does National Floors Not Warranty?

### Neglect and Improper Care

Hardwood floors require reasonable care after refinishing. Damage may result from wet mopping, steam cleaning, excessive water, abrasive cleaners, incompatible cleaning chemicals, waxes, oils or other products not appropriate for the finish.

**Damage caused by neglect, improper cleaning or improper maintenance is not a flooring workmanship failure and is not covered by the National Floors workmanship warranty.**

### Impact and Physical Damage

A hardwood floor and its finish can be damaged by physical impact. Examples include dropped objects, moving or dragging furniture, cleats, spikes, sharp objects, high heels, appliances, equipment and other objects capable of scratching, denting, gouging, cracking or chipping the floor or finish.

Furniture should be equipped with appropriate protective feet or floor pads and should never be dragged across a finished hardwood floor.

**Scratches, dents, gouges, cracking, chipping or other damage caused by impact or physical contact are not flooring workmanship failures and are not covered by the National Floors workmanship warranty.**

### Moisture and Water Damage

Moisture is one of the greatest threats to hardwood flooring. Water or excessive moisture can affect both the wood and the finish long after refinishing has been completed.

Examples include plumbing leaks, roof leaks, appliance leaks, flooding, groundwater, standing water, excessive humidity, building-envelope leaks, wet cleaning and other sources of moisture outside the control of National Floors.

Moisture can cause cupping, crowning, buckling, swelling, shrinking, separation, discoloration and damage to the floor or finish.

**Damage caused by water, moisture or environmental conditions is not a flooring workmanship failure and is not covered by the National Floors workmanship warranty.**

### Pet and Animal Damage

Pets can damage hardwood flooring and its finish through scratching, claw marks, gouging, chewing, urine, stains, moisture and water around food or water bowls.

**Damage caused by pets or other animals is not a flooring workmanship failure and is not covered by the National Floors workmanship warranty.**

### Painter's Tape, Tape and Adhesives

Painter's tape, masking tape, duct tape, protective-film adhesives and other adhesive products should **never be applied directly to a finished hardwood floor**. Adhesives can bond to the finish and cause peeling, lifting, discoloration, residue or delamination when removed.

**Damage caused by tape, adhesives or adhesive-backed protective materials is not a flooring workmanship failure and is not covered by the National Floors workmanship warranty.**

### Normal Wear and Heavy Traffic

Hardwood flooring is a working surface and will naturally wear with use. How quickly that happens depends on the number of occupants, frequency of use, footwear, pets, entertaining, maintenance and the amount of traffic the floor receives.

Changes in sheen are also normal. Frequently traveled areas may gradually become duller or appear different from areas receiving less traffic.

**Normal wear, changes in sheen and accelerated wear caused by heavy or excessive traffic are not flooring workmanship failures and are not covered by the National Floors workmanship warranty.**

### Sunlight and Natural Color Changes

Hardwood, stains and floor finishes naturally change with age and exposure to sunlight and ultraviolet light. Areas covered by rugs, furniture or other objects may age at a different rate from exposed areas.

**Fading, darkening, natural color changes or differences caused by sunlight, ultraviolet exposure or aging are not flooring workmanship failures and are not covered by the National Floors workmanship warranty.**

### Damage Caused by Other People or Contractors

Damage may occur after National Floors completes its work as homeowners, tenants, guests, movers, painters, plumbers, electricians, appliance installers, general contractors and other trades continue to use or work around the floor.

Repairs, coatings, cleaning treatments, modifications or alterations performed by another party may also affect the floor or its finish.

**Damage caused by another person, contractor or trade is not a flooring workmanship failure and is not covered by the National Floors workmanship warranty.**

### Fire, Pests and Natural Disasters

Damage caused by fire, smoke, excessive heat, firefighting or fire-suppression efforts, termites, insects or other wood-destroying organisms is outside the control of National Floors.

The same applies to earthquakes, floods, storms, high winds, wildfires, lightning, ground movement, landslides and other natural disasters or severe weather, including resulting structural movement or water intrusion.

**Damage resulting from these events or conditions is not a flooring workmanship failure and is not covered by the National Floors workmanship warranty.**

## Making a Warranty Claim

If you believe your hardwood floor has experienced a problem covered by our 2-year sanding and refinishing workmanship warranty, please contact National Floors promptly so we can inspect the affected area and determine the cause.

National Floors must be provided a reasonable opportunity to inspect the flooring before another contractor or party performs repairs, recoating, refinishing or other corrective work to the affected area.

If our inspection determines that the problem resulted from covered workmanship performed by National Floors, **we will correct the covered workmanship issue at no charge to the customer.**
