Hardwood Floor Squeaking and Movement

Hardwood is a natural material that continually responds to changes in its environment. As temperature and humidity change with the seasons, hardwood can expand and contract. Over time, this natural movement can allow flooring boards to move slightly against neighboring boards, fasteners or the subfloor, which may result in occasional squeaking.

Floor movement can also develop from changes in the subfloor, framing, building structure, humidity levels, normal use and other conditions that occur after installation and are outside the control of National Floors.

Squeaking, minor movement or other sounds resulting from normal seasonal movement, environmental changes, subfloor or structural conditions are not flooring workmanship failures and are not covered by the National Floors workmanship warranty.

Sunlight, UV Exposure and Natural Color Changes

Hardwood flooring naturally changes color with age and exposure to sunlight and ultraviolet (UV) light. National Floors cannot control or prevent the amount of sunlight or UV exposure a floor receives after installation. Areas covered by rugs, furniture or other objects may age at a different rate from exposed areas, resulting in noticeable color differences over time.

Fading, darkening, discoloration, natural color changes or differences caused by sunlight, ultraviolet exposure or aging are not flooring workmanship failures and are not covered by the National Floors workmanship warranty.
