National Floors owner Anthony Campagna is also the founder and chief instructor of Tri City Aikido, a traditional Aikido dojo serving Fremont, Newark, Union City and surrounding Bay Area communities. Anthony founded the dojo in 1996 after beginning his own Aikido training in 1986.
National Floors and Tri City Aikido
At first glance, hardwood floor refinishing and a traditional Japanese martial art may not appear to have much in common. The connection is Anthony Campagna, who owns National Floors and has also spent decades teaching Aikido.
Tri City Aikido has been an important part of Anthony's life for more than 30 years. What began as years of personal martial arts training eventually led to the establishment of his own dojo, where adults and children have trained in Aikido since 1996.
Traditional Aikido in Fremont
Tri City Aikido teaches a traditional, non-competitive approach to Aikido. Training emphasizes timing, balance, movement, awareness and the ability to respond to an attack without relying solely on physical strength.
The dojo is a branch of Kumano Jyuku Dojo in Shingu, Japan. Its lineage comes through Tasaka Shihan, 7th Dan, a longtime student of Michio Hikitsuchi Sensei, 10th Dan, one of the senior students of Aikido founder Morihei Ueshiba.
Anthony currently holds the rank of Godan, 5th Dan, through the Aikikai Foundation in Tokyo, Japan.
Aikido for Adults and Children
Tri City Aikido offers separate programs for adults and children at its Fremont dojo. Adult training includes empty-hand techniques as well as traditional weapons practice with the bokken and jo. Children's classes are organized by age so instruction can be appropriate for each stage of development.
Aikido does not use tournaments or competitive matches. Students train cooperatively, learning techniques with partners while developing coordination, balance, confidence, awareness and self-control.
More Than Three Decades of Aikido
Anthony began studying Aikido in 1986 and founded Tri City Aikido ten years later. Since opening the dojo in 1996, he has remained actively involved in teaching its classes and developing its programs.
Although National Floors and Tri City Aikido serve very different purposes, both represent long-term professional commitments built through years of hands-on experience. National Floors is Anthony's flooring business; Tri City Aikido is the martial arts school he founded and continues to teach.
